ALREADY HAVE A HEALTHCARE CERTIFICATION? TRY THE NA REFRESHER COURSE
This 50-hour course consists of a brief review of the NA I theory curriculum, selected NA I skills, and preparation for the state written and skill exams. Successful completion of this refresher course will provide individuals with a review of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that must be demonstrated on the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Examination necessary for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry. (Note: If you have taken the North Carolina NNAAP test three times within a two-year period, and failed, you are ineligible to take a refresher class and must re-take the complete Nursing Assistant 1 course. Additional Note: If your goal is to enroll in Nursing School, this course will NOT meet the required pre-requisite and you will need to take an accredited complete Nursing Assistant 1 course)

Who can ATTEND a refresher course?
The NA Training Refresher Course is offered to enrollees who have:
been listed or are currently listed on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry;
have successfully completed a state approved training program;
hold a state recognized unencumbered health care credential (EMT, EMT-P, CMA, RN, LPN, etc.) from any state.
Military personnel who have had medical/corpsman training may also enroll.
Do I QUALIFY?
Be at least 18 years of age (no exceptions)
Have a valid High School diploma or GED certificate from an accredited school (if you have never taken a class at GTCC before and have a high school diploma from another country, it will need to be validated through our Student Success Center. You will be dismissed from the class if the high school diploma you have is from an unaccredited high school. This will be checked on the first day of class. If unsure if your high school is accredited, you may email Amy Leonard at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will check for you.)
Enrollees must provide a copy of unencumbered Registry listing or any state recognized or military health care credential by nurse aide listing number or other credential identifiers.
MUST have a U.S. government-issued Social Security Card, signed and non-laminated (a permanent resident card, such as a Visa, or any other alien identification card will not be accepted)
Have an unexpired Government issued photo ID such as a Driver’s License or Passport (must bring a copy of this to the first class)
You MUST bring all of the above documents to the first class for verification by the instructor. If you do not meet ALL these qualifications, you will be dismissed from the course and will receive a refund of the registration fee.
If GTCC already has your transcripts on file, you will not need to bring your high school diploma or GED certificate to the first class and will only need to bring your original Social Security card and copy of your Photo ID. If you are unsure if it is on file or not, you may email Amy Leonard at email@example.com and she can check for you.
NOTE:The sitting fee for the state exam will be an additional $101.00 and is not included in the registration fee and other fees listed above.Also, students must wait 13 calendar days after graduation to take this exam.
What SPECIAL POLICIES do I need to know?
The attendance policy is very strict. You may be dismissed from the program if you are absent more than once or tardy greater than 3 times during the Theory and Lab portions of the class.
In order to be successful in the course you must score a 77% or better on the final written exam AND score an 80% or better on the skills performance exam.
You must be able to accept constructive criticism, control your temper and follow directions carefully.
Unprofessional or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.
You will be dismissed during any portion of this class should your reaction be inappropriate at any time.
You may be dismissed if you are caught cheating, suspected of alcohol or drug use on campus or before class.
If you are dismissed from a class for any reason, you are not eligible for a refund.
Are there any PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS?
The job description for Nursing is both physical and stressful.
There is no light duty available.
You must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand for up to 4 hrs., stoop or bend without assistance, be able to listen to soft sounds, and comprehend English and speak English fluently.
What STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES are available to me?
Disability Services– The NA 1 Departmental Staff want all students to be successful. If you have any special needs, please contact the Disability Services department prior to starting your class so that arrangements can be made for the first day. Please call 334-4822 ext. 50113.
Learning Resource Centers– As a student in the NA 1 training program, you have access to the Learning Resource Centers on all 3 campus locations. You can visit the website at gtcc.edu for more information such as hours, etc.
Veterans’ Center– If you think you are eligible for VA/Military Education Benefits, please contact the Department of Veterans Affairs at 1-888-GIBILL1 or 888-442-4551. Eligibility is ultimately determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs, not GTCC. For additional information, you can contact Flora Taylor at 334-4822 ext. 50521.

If interested in becoming a Nursing Assistant, but you are lacking your High School Diploma or GED, this is the program that can help you. Students will be able to earn their GED diploma, Nursing Assistant 1 Certificate and Career Readiness Certificate (CRC).
